Captain Kelley Visitor Log

22 - 29  August 2009

Thank you for the use of the house.  We have had a fantastic week here.  The house is wonderful, well equipped, and we have really enjoyed our stay here.  We have filled a lot in this week.  Chatham, Sandwich and Provincetown are all worth seeing - Sandwich is very picture-postcard.  Whale watching was amazing - we saw about 15 humpbacks (One came right up beside the boat and a school of dolphins).  We did two cycle rides along the Cape Cod Rail Trail - Brewster's Bikes on Underpass Rd were very friendly and helpful, and the trail is great, very flat past lakes & cranberry bogs.  Favorite beach was Sea Street up in North Dennis.

I really liked this house - Cape Cod is an amazing place and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay :-)

I really liked the house.  Especially the rabbits.  Loved the beaches and had an amazing time! :-)

The house was delightful!  You should advertise how lovely the outdoor shower is!  "An Explorer's Guide to Cape Cod" was particularly useful.  The maps and information in it helped us find some lovely spots.  Sp we arrived on the coat tails of Hurricane Bill and we leave as another hurricane is gathering.  Thank you for making our one week in Cape Cod so comfortable!

17 - 22 August 2009

Thank you for a wonderful stay, the house is beautiful.  We enjoyed our time here after a hectic two weeks on the rest of the East Coast.  The weather was kind to us and we leave just as hurricane Bill approaches.  We look forward to returning one day..

Many thanks for a great week on Cape Cod.  The house is fantastic - So much room, beautifully furnished & well equipped - we all love it!  We had 3/4 lovely hot beach days down at Sea Street Beach - great for swimming and very quiet.  We would recommend the whale watching from Provincetown - real holiday highlight.  Good food at Clancy's & Sesuit Harbor Cafe.  "Eden" on Sesuit Harbor Road is a must for the original Cape Cod (Dennis) bracelet - go opposite way to harbor on junction with Lord's Drive.  Outside shower a hit with the boys.  Thanks again.

Thank you for 'lending' us your house.  It was great; We've had a memorable time.  The initial presentation made us all feel very welcome.  We have all particularly enjoyed the outdoor shower - the enclosed garden has been a successful asset too.  We have tried to treat the Captain Kelley House with respect.  Perhaps we'll come again.

I had an awesome time in Cape Cod.  I enjoyed it so much.  The lobster was wonderful.  This was my first time here.  I loved Provincetown.  The beach was very fun.  The jetty was super but the water was COLD!  I would definitely come back! - J. Scott

Mommy had fun too.  It was nice to have a "real" Cape Cod house to stay  in as opposed to a hotel! - B. Lang

Thanks for sharing your warm and comfortable house.  Had a wonderful stay here.  P.S.  Outdoor shower is great! - A. Lang

16-23 Aug 2008

We had a great time here and perfect weather.   We recommend whale watching from Provincetown, and the swimming and boat hire in Nickerson Park.  Wish I'd found the book on the history of Dennis (By the dining room sofa) earlier in the week!  Enjoyed eating out at Clancy's although the portions are enormous, we should have ordered less!

10-16 Aug 2008

If you have young children (1-2 years) Corporation Beach is great for them.  We also used Barbs bikes nearby for cycling the Cape Cod Rail Trail which was a lovely day out.  Clancy's is wonderful for eating out but get there between 5 and 5:30.  We did find it very noisy here with traffic -ear plugs helped

3-9 Aug 2008

We had a glorious week on the Cape.  The weather was mixed but we still had good days on the beach.  Our favorite was West Dennis Beach.  Living around here was like being in a 200-year time warp; Provincetown couldn't be more diverse.  All five of us loved the outdoor shower, come rain or shine!  We loved reading about the history of the house and its owners and discovering the 'secret' staircase and the rabbits.  Many thanks,

27 Jul-2 Aug 2008

We've had a great holiday here in Cape Cod.  We love your house, perfect for our family holiday.  Have crammed lots into each day and enjoyed the fabulous beaches.  The highlight for our boys was parasailing from Sesuit Marina in Dennis, a fantastic experience!  Many thanks and hope we are able to return some day.

All the family spent a great time in your nice house.  In six days we had time enough for a complete (or about) visit of Cape Cod.  We like the way of life of this old American Cape, its history, settlement, whale fishing, villages and preserved landscape.  We live in France in Bordeaux and we have a place which looks like these places.  It is named the "Cape Ferret" and if you want to visit it sometime we would be very happy to make you a visit tour.  Thank you and probably we will come back for a longer visit.

11-18 Aug 2007

The best rental we have ever had!  Starting with the warm welcome, the house had everything we needed as we arrived late at night.  Our children were delighted with the rabbits guarding the stairs and the essential beach equipment.  The weather was fine with lots of wind and we enjoyed the big waves, spending most days on the beach.  We were always happy to come back to this lovely house.  The lovely garden, secret stairs, and wonderful decorations – it is a magical place for childhood memories.  Thank you.

We’ve been so enchanted by this delightful house – the bunny rabbits on the stairwell, your love of the colour blue, and a familiar vermeen print which we have in our hallway!  The welcome here is outstanding – and you even organized perfect weather for us.  We’ve had a most wonderful week here on the  Cape – including consorting with whales – and it was always blistful to come “back home” to this relaxing house.  With many thanks,

7/14 – 7/21 2007

We arrived at Captain Kelley House after having spent a few days with friends in Framingham, and we were thrilled to find this lovely and well equipped house waiting for us.  Even fresh flowers on the table, and a bottle of wine in the fridge.  Thank you.  We’ve had great days at the beach; our son (5 years old) put the beach toys to good use and has based in the sun and waves.  We’ve been to Provincetown and enjoyed the colorful, easygoing and artistic atmosphere.  We’ve eaten out a few times, but to be honest, we especially have enjoyed shopping groceries and making dinner “at home.”  Its such a great place to just relax and be together.  We’ve seen quite a bit of Cape Cod, and would love to come back for more.

7/22 – 7/29 2006

We had a great time in the Captain Kelley House and Cape Cod.  Both lived up to all our expectations.  Our weather was a bit of a mixed bag, sunny at the beginning of the week, but cloudy towards the end, however it didn’t distract from the holiday; there was lots to do.  The beaches on the north side of the Cape were beautiful, particularly Mayflower and Chapin.  The beaches in Province Lands were also spectacular and well worth a visit although the water was a bit colder.  Provincetown itself was great, and we highly recommend the whale watching.  A highlight for us.  Also, if the weather isn’t great, kayaking is a great way to spend an afternoon.  We did it on the Swan River, and, having a few novices on the team, we had great laughs right into the evening talking about all that went wrong.  So all in all, a great holiday.  Thank you, and hopefully we will be back to the Cape again.

7/1 – 7/8 2006

Thank you so much for introducing us to all that the Captain Kelley House has to offer!.  My husband, daughter, grandchildren and I were enchanted by the colonial ambience that you have created here.  Like your other visitors we used the house as a base to all the Cape has to offer.  My grandchildren had never been here and greatly enjoyed renting bikes at the Little Capistran in Eastham and peddling to Coast Guard Beach – one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen.  When they left on Wednesday morning, they left with great memories of sunny days and lots of laughter at night with the board games you provided.  My sister and her husband came up later and we had a great diner at Clancy’s.  Thanks again and we hope to be back.

9/21 – 9/24 2005

Just a short note to let you know that we had a great time staying in the Captain Kelley House.  I just wanted to let you know that the house, location, and entire Cape was everything we hoped it would be.  Hopefully we will return in the future with the new addition/s to the family!

8/13 – 8/20 2005

Thanks again for sharing your home with us.  We had another nice week on the Cape.  Great weather, lots of beach time, ferry to Nantucket.  Another anniversary on the Cape.  Day trip to Nantucket was the highlight of the trip this year.

8/7 -8/13 2005

What a wonderful house with so much character – it truly felt like a home away from home!  We especially enjoyed the colonial era dolls – they provided much entertainment this week.  We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful beaches in this area.  Sea Street Beach was beautiful, peaceful, and not crowded at all.  We had a few days there!  We ventured to the National Seashore to enjoy the beautiful Marconi Beach in Wellfleet – truly breathtaking.  Definitely worth the ride.  We dined at Clancy’s our last night, which was a wonderful meal.  The scallops were to die for.  We also hit up Sundae School a couple of nights this week – very highly recommended!  That you for sharing your home with us – we have created many great memories here (especially from our endless nights of playing board games – great fun)!

7/30 – 8/6 2005

Our first impression was “What a well-equipped house!”.  We’ve had a lovely week using this as a base to explore the Cape and the weather has been fantastic – thank you for the organizing this for us!  We enjoyed the summer production of Ain’t Misbehaving in Dennis (fantastic theatre and atmosphere, but take a jacket – the air conditioning is super efficient).  Whale watching too has been a highlight from Provincetown – interesting place.  We have not had a bad meal since we have been here, but must give a special mention to Clancy’s (Upper County Road) for a delightful meal which wasn’t fried!  For a reasonable bit of entertainment try kayaking, mini-golf, or karaoke (just get very drunk first).  Thanks again for a cozy and relaxing base – home from home.

7/16 – 7/23 2005

We’ve had a wonderful stay in this lovely house – the heat has taken us a while to get used to – is this normal for July in Cape Cod?  Whale watching from Provincetown was a huge success – fortunately we had book places in advance otherwise we would have had a long wait.  The other great hit with our teenage sons has been renting a jet ski on Inman Beach (end of Belmont Street).  It is expensive ($100 per hour) but a great treat.  Kayacking too was fun.  Final mention:  a great recycling centre quite close (Theophilos Smith Road) for all the empty wine bottles.  And a big thank you for such a warm welcome in such a beautifully equipped house.

7/9 – 7/16 2005

The Borne family enjoyed their 1st time to Cape Cod.  We recommend using the beaches in Dennis as opposed to Dennisport.  Mayflower Beach was beautiful, clean, & calm.  (West Dennis Beach had seaweed everywhere!)  Get there early for a parking spot (By 9:30 AM).  Biking on the Cape Cod railway trail was a highlight.  We rented our bikes at the Bike Depot on Depot Street (1st left after Capt Kelley house off of Upper County Drive).  The path had several lakes & bogs along it including a General Store for an ice cream stop.  The weather was perfect.  We enjoyed this great house and appreciated all the special touches to make it feel like home.  Thanks for a memorable vacation at the Cape!

5/6 – 5/13 2005

What a beautiful old house.  It is really interesting to share some of your American history.  We’ve had some terrible weather, torrential rain, high winds, and flooding in places.  So it was really nice to return to the house.  It didn’t spoil our time though.   However, we didn’t get to use the beach towels!!  We’ve had a wonderful holiday and thanks for all your help.  Regards

We had a great week in your house.  Very comfortable with lots of character!  We spent our 25th Wedding Anniversary here on the Cape and we had not been back since our honeymoon.  We enjoyed the history of the home.  Our kids wondered about what was going bump in the night!  We’ll be back, Best regards,

Mario and  I had a really great time in Dennisport.  We had never had a real vacation together.  It was also our first rental.  We remain satisfied, even delighted, with both experiences.   We particulary enjoyed day trips to Lower and Upper Cape, but we prefer Dennis to all other towns.  At the end of those day trips we caught ourselves saying “Lets go home to Dennis.”  We really took to the place after just one week.  We ate a lot of clam chowder and fried clams.  We had ice cream every night!  We got sunburned on the National Seashore, stuffed to the gills at the Kream & Kone, and married at Scargo Tower.  Coming back to Massachusetts after many years abroad has been very exciting for met, and Mario too, loved exploring all the stuff that makes this State exceptional.

The Savage family from the Isle of Man (UK – between Ireland and England).  Fantastic weather, good beaches, really enjoyed our stay.  Particularily liked Provincetown.  We have four children who really enjoyed the north shore beaches.  Recommend Clancy’s (if you can get in) where we met our waitress who had an Isle of Man connection!  Hope to be back sometime.

8/16 – 8/23 2003

We really enjoyed our time here in Dennisport and in the Captain Kelley House.  We loved the early American look and feel of the house and it nicely complimented an earlier vacation this year to Lexington MA.  The weather was great expect for a huge thunder and lightning storm in the wee hours of Sunday morning, it was quite spectacular.  We’d love to be able to come back some day to the Captain Kelley house.  Recommend the beaches on the north shore (Howe Street and corporation Beach) for families with small children, the waters a bit cooler, but the beach features fine sand, dunes, and an easy entrance into and out of the water.

Ardizzoni Family, MA

8/9 – 8/16 2003

The Dear families from Staffordshire UK and Columbus OH had an excellent week here.  We recommend a trip to see the whales – Dolphin Fleet from Provincetown have very good rates.  Some of use went for a bike ride along the trails.  Beaches to suit everyone.  Appreciated time in the garden before relaxing in this wonderful house.  We’d love to come back again sometime.  PS, Outside shower is a great feature.

6/21 – 6/28 2003

We really enjoyed this house and our stay here.  The weather when we arrived was overcast & rainy for a couple days – the rest of the week was clear & warm/hot (85-90 degrees) – we took day trips to Provincetown, Hyannis, and Martha’s Vineyard.  Recommend the bus tour of Martha’s Vineyard – 2 ½ hours & very informative.  Rented bikes from Barb’s Bike Shop.  Rode bike to Provincetown on Cape Cod Rail Trail to Wellfleet & Hwy 6 and then 6A to Provincetown.  3 Hours, 26 minutes at approximately 12 miles/hour.  Headwinds all way back.  The chairs around the dinner table are very comfortable!  Lovely house.

9/16 -9/20 2002

A charming and comfortable house with happy vibes.  We had great weather – sunny, in the 70’s during the days.  Bike path is 1 ½ miles from house.  Go down Clipper Lane & make a left at Depot to Bike Path.  Take a right on path & Provincetown is 44 miles away.  Bike path ends in Wellfleet (Approximately 22 miles).  Continue on to P-Town on Route 6 which has a good sholder & is biker friendly.  As a Guage:  House to P-Town Pier:  44.1 miles, 3 hours, 13 minutes, 8 seconds at average speed of 13.6 miles/hour.

Robert L, Virginia

8/30 – 9/2 2002

We had a spectacular time despite the weather.  What a wonderful home – we had fun telling stories of Captain Kelly and how he lived.  Thanks for the left over toys – Thomas had a blast.

8/18 – 8/21 2002

We had a wonderful stay!  I believe we had a visit or two from Capt Kelley!
